Golfer Reviews

This player friendly 18 hole golf course just reopened on August 23, 2003 with its all new greens and has only improved since then. This par 72 course presents enough challenge for the serious golfer yet is friendly to ladies and the average golfer. This golf course is also a feast for the senses, the panorama of the views creates a feeling of total serenity with the natural beauty of wildlife and waterfowl. I totally recommend it as a very good value and a great course to enjoy.

Played course many times. Most enjoyable. Some forgiving holes and some challenging. All in all, a very playable course. Not too punitive. Want a challenge?, play the back tees. Most favorite hole is #12. Must get off good tee shot to be able to hold this canted green. Most of time you need to chip it to get it up and down for par. Most picturesque; #8. I'll be back...

A Pleasure to Your Eyes and a Real Challenge

Fayetteville, North Carolina - The Baywood Golf Course is located on the outskirts of Fayetteville, North Carolina near I-95 (2 miles from I-95, Exit 55). Nestled in a neighborhood setting, this course will more than satisfy the needs of the average golfer.

This daily fee golf course is well known in the area for hosting the local county tournament and various outings. With a well-manicured layout that is easy to ride or walk, this course is one of my personal favorites in the area.

You are greeted by a one-story clubhouse that houses the snack area and pro shop, which contains the essentials for a day of golf. You find that the rates of this course are favorable to most, with rates for walking or riding 9 or 18 holes.

The rates range from a low of nine dollars to walk nine holes during the week, to thirty four dollars to ride eighteen on the weekends. You will find that you get more than you pay for on this enjoyable and relaxing course. The lack of large elevation changes force you to consider the wind and the amount of roll you will get from these Bermuda grass fairways.

Baywood makes it difficult for you by introducing the one and three handicap holes as the first two holes. The first hole, a par 4, is 432-yards from the back tees and plays slightly to the left. Water on the right hand side of the hole, at about 100 yards from the hole, will make for hard approach shots.

It is best to stay on the left side of the fairway as you will avoid a fairway bunker and the water hazard. It is important to notice the overhanging branches of the many pine trees and maple trees when you are playing your high lofted clubs.

The second hole is the number one handicap on the course and it is a par 5 that measures 541-yards. The hole doglegs right and the curved fairway bends around water that runs along a large portion of the hole on the right hand side. It is best not to test your luck by taking a shortcut to the green and landing close to the right side of the fairway.

Your ball has a high chance of landing on the cart path and bouncing into the water or rolling down from the sloping fairway into the water hazard. Your approach shot is complicated by the small hourglass green. While this hole can be tamed with two shots into the green, it is smart to lay up and walk away with a solid par.

The next excitement on the from nine comes on the par 3, 165-yard number five. This hole's difficulty is directly related to the pin placement. The green is elevated about 10 to 20 feet higher than the tee. For those who are not able to control their irons; a chip onto this green to try and save par is not an easy task.

There are bunkers on the right and left sides and the green undulates in places that you do not think is possible. This is a hole where you will either feast or famine.

Number six is a hole that can be played a thousand different ways and produce varied results each time. The par 5 is 536-yards in length and a flat straight fairway invites you to get all the distance you can. A row of bushes separates this hole from number four. If you did not get enough distance out of your tee shot, you are left with a fairway that turns hard to the left.

The courageous shot would be to carry the trees to the left and land in front of or on this small green. The safe shot will be to play into the wide open area in the bend of the turn and be left with a clear shot into the green. The small green is not forgiving and you should not count on it to cooperate.

The last of the eye catching holes on the front nine is the par 3 number eight. You are faced with an uphill carry of 170-yards into a green that is surrounded by water. The island green is made harder by the hard slope on the back of the green that goes directly into the water hazard. Any poor shot off the back of the green or short of the green will face a watery grave.

As you cross Three Wood Drive, the back nine of Baywood Golf Course opens with number ten which has water running along the entire right hand side and back of the hole. This 390-yard hole is not tricky and presents few obstacles other than a fairway bunker. As you check the birdhouses for yardage, you will find yourself enjoying the course more and more.

After two relatively calm holes, the back nine comes alive on the 510-yard thirteenth. This par 5 is clear to about 150-yards from the tee when you notice the water coming in on the left hand side. Your ability to play around the water is important as this hole's tee shot placement determines your success.

Once the water is out of the way, the hole remains difficult with an hourglass green that is tough to get up and down on. As one of the harder holes on the back nine, this hole should be played carefully.

The back nine continues with a mix of holes that includes number 15, a 411-yard par 4. This hole is similar to ones before in that it features water running along the side of the fairway that forces you to be careful with your tee shot. The fairway itself is flat and long and is sidelined by the driving range. The raised small green will prove troublesome for some. Another of the back nine treats is the par 5 number seventeen. It has a fairway that turns left into a mid-sized green.

The large amount of rough in front of the green on the right hand side should be cautioned against. A larger green will help those who found the club grabbing rough.

Overall, Baywood Golf Course is a pleasure to play and is highly recommended for play on a regular basis. With its various water hazards and beautiful fairways, this course will be a challenge to your game and a pleasure to your eye.
